“I’m next!”
It seems like every other week, some child wants to be measured for growth. So, we get out the measuring board with pencil, ruler and straight-stiff kids to see if the parents have been telling the truth – that lots of sleep will help them grow bigger.
Of course, the exercise begins with me adjusting the ruler lower than the previous measurement. “Da-ad, come on.”
No matter how hard I try, they won’t stop growing. The board becomes the visual reminder that time with them is fleeting, but at the same time, it’s joyful to see their development and fulfillment of God’s plan for them.
So the board gets populated with more growth spurt autographs, but it also marks the time that we have been blessed to be together.
Here’s to a full board!
